BLEPHAROPLASTY (EYELID SURGERY)
Blepharoplasty is a type of surgery that repairs droopy eyelids and may involve removing excess skin, muscle and fat. As you age, your eyelids stretch and the muscles that support them weaken. Consequently, excess fat can accumulate above and below the eyelids, causing pressure on the eyebrows, upper edema and bags under the eyes.
In addition to making you look older, the severe skin around your eyes can reduce your lateral vision (peripheral vision), especially the upper and outer parts of your field of vision. Blepharoplasty can reduce or eliminate these vision problems and can make the eyes look younger and more attentive.

PREPARATION
Before the eyelid surgery, you will go through:
A physical examination - Our surgeon will perform a physical examination, which may include testing for tear production and measure parts of the eyelids.
An examination of vision - Your ophthalmologist will examine your eyes and test your vision, including your peripheral vision.
Eyelid photography - Your eyes will be photographed from different angles. These photos help planning the surgery and assess immediate and long-term effects.
Medications - You will be asked to stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen, and any other medications or herbal supplements associated with high bleeding. Ask your doctor how long before surgery you should stop taking these medicines. Take only medicines approved by your surgeon.
You will be advised to quit smoking a few weeks before surgery, as smoking can reduce your ability to heal after the procedure.
POST-PROCEDURE
After the operation you will be kept under observation in a recovery room, where you are monitored to prevent any complications. You can leave later that day to recover at home.
After surgery, you may temporarily experience blurred vision from the lubricating ointment applied to the eyes, wet eyes, sensitivity to light, double vision, pain or discomfort.
Your doctor will suggest that you take the following steps after the operation:

Gently clean your eyelids and use prescribed glasses or ointments.

Avoid difficult activities, such as aerobics and jogging, for a week.

Avoid smoking.

Avoid rubbing your eyes.

If you use contact lenses, do not wear them for about two weeks after surgery.

Wear dark shades of sunglasses to protect your eyelids from the sun and wind.

Sleep with your head raised above your chest for a few days.

Apply cold compresses to reduce swelling.
