LAPAROSCOPIC TECHNIQUES
The complete laparoscopic techniques used for surgery allows a minimum length of stay for donors. These techniques are used only in centers with experienced and expert staff and offer many advantages over open surgery: For example, while open surgery involves incisions of 15-20 cm, laparoscopy allows incisions of only 5 cm in length. The operation is possible through a chamber inserted in the abdomen and which allows a high visual control.
A smaller operating area involves less postoperative pain and lower-risk surgical injuries. The absence of large surgical scars diminishes cosmetic concerns and decreases the risk of hernia, numbness, surgical site infections and pulmonary embolism. Through the laparoscopic technique, donors are able to be mobilized and start administering fluids on the evening of surgery, to start the intake of solid food and to be discharged the next day.
