CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE
Coronary artery disease is one of the most common heart conditions. High cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, or smoking can damage the inner walls of the arteries, leading to plaque buildup inside the arterial walls and restricting blood flow. This situation marks the onset of coronary heart disease.
As more plaque builds up in the artery, the artery becomes narrower, further reducing the amount of blood that flows to the heart. This reduces the amount of oxygen reaching the heart, causing chest pain.
A narrowed artery completely blocked by blood clots leads to a heart attack (myocardial infarction). The lack of oxygen-rich blood causes permanent damage to the heart muscle.
HEART ATTACK
A heart attack begins when the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart or any of their branches become blocked. This leads to irreversible damage to the heart muscle or a fatal heart attack. Heart attacks are the most severe of all coronary heart diseases.
Two main factors increase the risk of a heart attack: “non-modifiable risks” and “modifiable risks.”
Non-modifiable risks include genetic factors, age, and being male. Men and individuals with a family history of early heart attacks are at higher risk. Additionally, risk increases with age.
The second group includes “modifiable risks.” Reducing these risk factors depends entirely on individual effort. Smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes, high blood fat levels, and obesity fall into this category.

- Rheumatic heart diseases
- Cardiac rhythm disorders
Congenital Heart Diseases
Congenital heart diseases are among the most common heart conditions observed in infants. Disorders in this category include abnormalities that occur during fetal development.
Cardiac Rhythm Disorders
These are deviations in the heart’s electrical system, marked by abnormally slow pulses, pauses, or accelerated heartbeats. Although more often seen in adults, they can also affect infants with congenital heart conditions, after heart surgery, or without any apparent reason.
Rheumatic Heart Diseases
Rheumatism is a disease that causes problems in the body’s organs. Throat infections are among the most common causes. The virus called “hemolytic streptococcus” settles in the throat and infects the area. It can also reach the heart, causing deformities, narrowing, and valve insufficiency.
