During a facelift, the surgeon will reposition the fat and tissue under the skin to:

• Help smooth wrinkles.

• Remove the excess skin that causes the “fallen jaw”.

• Lift and tighten the skin of the face;

Facial lifts vary depending on the desired results. Traditionally, an incision is made in the hairline near the temples, the incision is made in front of the ear, in front of and embracing the earlobe, then back at the level of the lower scalp behind the ears.

​Fat and excess skin can be removed or redistributed from the face, neck, and underlying muscle and connective tissue are repositioned and tightened. If there is minimal skin loss, a “mini” facelift can be performed, this involves shorter incisions.

If a neck lift is also performed, excess skin and fat will be removed. The skin of the neck will be tightened and pulled back and forth. This is often done through an incision just below the chin.

The incisions often have soluble sutures or glue for the skin and are made in such a way as to blend with the hairline and face structure.
