WHAT IS BARIATRIC SURGERY?
Bariatric surgery depends mainly on two principles: decreasing the volume of the stomach and / or “malabsorption”, ie preventing the absorption of food in certain stages. These surgeries save lives when performed on the right patient at the right time.
FOR WHOM IS BARIATRIC SURGERY SUITABLE?
Bariatric surgery is suggested for patients with a body mass index of 35+, who cannot lose weight with programs such as nutrition control, exercise or medical therapies.
It is also recommended for patients with a body mass index over 30 who suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes and sleep apnea, negatively affecting quality of life. The decision on the type of intervention is made after various examinations by specialists.
It is advised that fertile women who intend to have a baby in the near future consult doctors before doing so, as pregnancy is not recommended in the first twenty-four months after stomach reduction surgery.
POST-OPERATION OF BARIATRIC PROCEDURE
The methods for bariatric surgery are performed by using laparoscopic or robotic surgery techniques, with small incisions cut in the abdomen. Which allows patients return to their daily lives in a very short time and adapt to the new diets monitored by metabolism specialists and dieticians.
After surgery, patients can expect to feel full consuming only small amounts, and over time, this feeling of fullness will turn into loss of appetite, the total amount of food ingested decreasing significantly.

WHEN SHOULD BARIATRIC SURGERY BE PERFORMED?
Gastric sleeve surgery is used to treat severe obesity. It is advised for people who have tried other weight loss methods with no long term success.
Your doctor may advise gastric sleeve surgery if you are severely obese with a body mass index (BMI) over 40. Your doctor may also advise it if you have a BMI between 35 and 40 and a health condition such as sleep apnea, high blood pressure, heart disease, or type 2 diabetes.
Patients with a BMI of 30 or less may first opt for a gastric balloon application, which is a non-surgical method.
HOW LONG DO I NEED TO STAY IN TURKEY FOR?
Generally patients are looking at 6 days stay in Turkey.
So you will need to get flight tickets that reflect this time frame.
WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE THE GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY?
Prior to the operation, we would get all your medical reports and health history, to give us knowledge of your health before arrival in Turkey.
After careful evaluation of your health history (if any), your doctor will give the okay, if you are suitable to proceed with the operation. Upon arrival in the hospital, you will be visiting different medical departments for a full health check up and analyses related to the procedure (endocrinologist will evaluate if the patient has hormonal problems, and also a sedation endoscopy would be performed to detect any other possible pathology in the stomach).
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY?
You will have general anaesthesia for your surgery. This will cause you to sleep through the surgery. Your surgeon will use laparoscopy. He or she will make several small cuts (incisions) in your upper abdomen. The surgeon will then insert a laparoscope and put small surgery tools into these incisions.
The anaesthesiologist will then pass a sizing tube through your mouth down into the stomach. The surgeon will then use a laparoscopic stapler to divide the stomach, leaving a narrowed vertical sleeve. The part of the stomach that was removed is then taken out of the abdomen through an incision. Your surgeon may then test for any leaks in the sleeve using a dye study or an upper endoscopy.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU RETURN HOME?
You will return home after 5 days stay in Turkey, following your nutritionist support consultation, you will be given a personalised diet plan suitable for you alone.
This plan will have a schedule of types of meals over the next weeks. You’ll go from liquids to pureed foods, then soft foods, and then to regular food. Each meal needs to be very small, you should make sure to eat slowly and chew each bite well. Don’t move too quickly to regular food. This can cause pain and vomiting.
People who have weight-loss surgery may have trouble getting enough vitamins and minerals. This is because they take in less food, and may absorb fewer nutrients. You may need to take a daily multivitamin, plus a calcium-vitamin D supplement. You may need additional nutrients, such as vitamin B-12 or iron. Your medical team will give you instructions.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF THE GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY?
The patient loses weight quickly and effectively.
Facilitates the remission of diseases caused by obesity.
Effective control of diabetes is achieved.
The transfer of the food bowl through the digestive tract does not change.
WHAT ARE THE COMPLICATIONS OF BARIATRIC SURGERY?
The most important complications of Gastric Sleeve and Gastric Bypass Surgery are stomach leaks and bleeding. However, with modern techniques developed today, their rates have dropped significantly (below 0.01%). Both procedures are applied as minimally invasive, laparoscopic techniques. Through these interventions, patients can quickly return to their daily lives after surgery.
GASTRIC SLEEVE OR GASTRIC BYPASS?
There are no major differences between the two surgeries. However, Gastric Sleeve surgery is a good way to lose weight. The duration of Gastric Sleeve surgery is shorter and easier to perform. If the patient has had Gastric Sleeve surgery, Gastric Bypass surgery is performed.
Gastric bypass is recommended for patients with any type of disability (kidney, heart, respiratory), or who have other chronic active conditions, such as diabetes.
CAN I GET PREGNANT AFTER BARIATRIC SURGERY?
During pregnancy, it is very important that the baby is fed in the mother’s womb. After bariatric surgery, the intake of nutrients is limited, there may be deficiencies of vitamins and minerals. Because this condition will adversely affect both mother and baby, it is recommended that you become pregnant about 1 year after bariatric surgery.
HOW DO YOU MAKE PAYMENT?
We do not require pre-deposit booking, so all payments are made in full at the hospital upon arrival, either by card, cash or bank transfer, whichever option is convenient for you. We unfortunately do not offer payment plans.
