BREAST LIFTING (MASTOPEXY)
Mastopexy is the medical name for the breast lift procedure, during this procedure, a plastic surgeon lifts and reshapes the breasts to give them a firmer, rounder appearance. The operation also removes extra skin around the breast and reduces the size of the areola – the coloured circle around the nipple.
As we age, our breasts lose their elasticity and firmness, cases such as pregnancy, breastfeeding and weight gain or loss can accentuate this process. PRE-PROCEDURE
Surgeons perform a breast lift using several different procedures. What technique your doctor uses depends on the size and shape of your breasts and how much you need.
Generally, the operation involves the following steps:
Firstly, The surgeon will make an incision around the areola to lift and reshape your breasts. Later, the surgeon will move your areolas to the correct position on the new shape of the breast and may also reduce their size. Subsequently, he will also be removing any excess skin to give the breasts a firmer appearance
Finally, the surgeon will close the incisions with stitches, sutures, skin adhesives or surgical tape. Surgeons usually try to make incisions cuts in parts of the breast where they will be less visible.
POST-PROCEDURE
It is normal to experience some swelling and soreness for a few weeks after surgery. Your doctor will prescribe pain medication, it would also help to hold use ice packs on your breasts to relieve swelling and pain.
You will need to wear a special bustier for two to three weeks after surgery and be required to also sleep on your back with pillows to keep your chest up.
The pain, bruising and swelling should go away in a few weeks. Breasts can take between 2 and 12 months to reach their final shape. Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for two to four weeks after surgery.
