Weight loss surgery in Turkey — which one, and what it includes.

If you are looking at weight loss surgery in Turkey, the first real question is not where — it is which procedure, and what kind of hospital is standing behind it. A gastric sleeve, a gastric balloon and a gastric bypass do very different jobs, suit different people, and cost different amounts.

This page sets the three side by side so you can see which one fits before you talk to anyone. Send us your details and a bariatric consultant reviews your file and comes back within 48 hours with a written answer — the procedure they would recommend, the all-inclusive price, and what the stay looks like.

The three procedures

Sleeve, balloon or bypass — which one fits

Gastric sleeve in Turkey

The most-chosen of the three. The surgeon removes around 75–80% of the stomach laparoscopically, leaving a narrow “sleeve”. You feel full much sooner, and much of the hormonal drive to eat goes with the removed tissue. It is permanent, it is keyhole surgery, and it is what most people mean when they say weight loss surgery.

Best suited to: someone who wants a single decisive step and can commit to the eating pattern that follows.

Gastric balloon in Turkey

The only non-surgical option here. A soft silicone balloon is placed into the stomach endoscopically — no incision — and stays for a set period before it is removed. It buys you a supported window in which eating less is physically easier, and it is reversible by design.

Best suited to: someone who wants to start without surgery, or who needs to lose weight before another operation.

Gastric bypass in Turkey

The stomach is divided into a small pouch and joined further down the small intestine, so food both fills you sooner and is absorbed differently. It is the option most often discussed where reflux is a factor, or where a sleeve has already been done and more is needed.

Best suited to: someone whose file points to bypass rather than sleeve — which is a decision for the surgeon, on your notes, not a preference picked from a list.

Safety · cost · aftercare

Is it safe to have weight loss surgery in Turkey

Safety in bariatric surgery is decided before the operation ever starts — by where it takes place. The most useful thing you can do when comparing providers is ask each one a single question: is this a fully equipped hospital, with an intensive care unit and every specialty on site? This section shows you how to judge the answer.

Surgery for our patients is carried out in JCI-accredited partner hospitals, and every file is reviewed by the operating team before a price is issued — the opinion comes back from the doctors who would perform the operation, not from a sales desk.

What weight loss surgery costs in the UK, and what it costs in Turkey

In the UK, private hospital groups quote weight loss surgery at several times the price of the same operation in Turkey — same laparoscopic technique, performed by bariatric surgeons who do this every day. The difference is the cost of care, not the standard of it.

Our price for the operation is the figure in the price panel above. It is fixed in writing before you travel and covers pre-operative tests, anaesthesia and hospital fees, the laparoscopic surgery, three to four nights as an inpatient, hotel nights and airport–clinic–hotel transfers. There is no separate theatre, anaesthetist or overnight charge added afterwards.

How to choose a hospital for weight loss surgery in Turkey

The first question to ask any provider

Weight loss surgery is offered in many settings in Turkey — full hospitals, but also small clinics that operate without an intensive care unit or any other medical specialty in the building. So before you compare prices, ask the question that matters most — here, in the UK, or anywhere else: is this a fully equipped hospital, with an ICU and every specialty on site? The answer tells you more about your safety than any brochure.

Why a full hospital matters in obesity surgery

Most patients who come for weight loss surgery live with secondary conditions alongside their weight — high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnoea, heart or joint problems. That is exactly why the setting matters: obesity surgery belongs in a hospital that is fully equipped for every one of those conditions, where a cardiologist, an endocrinologist, an anaesthetic team and an intensive care unit are part of the same building and the same file — on hand from the moment you are admitted to the moment you are discharged.

Our answer: every specialty under one roof

Our patients are treated in the hospitals of one of Turkey’s largest hospital chains — JCI-accredited, with every specialty under one building, an intensive care unit on site, and a multidisciplinary approach as standard: surgeon, anaesthetist, cardiologist, endocrinologist and dietitian working on the same file. Pre-operative bloods, imaging and anaesthetic assessment are completed before a date is confirmed, the operation is laparoscopic, and you spend three to four nights in hospital under the care of the ward team, with a named coordinator who stays reachable after discharge.

After the first year — and after ten

The best long-term results come from treating surgery as the start of a programme, not a one-off operation. Weight loss is fastest over the first 12 to 18 months, and what you keep at five and ten years is built on eating patterns, activity and follow-up — which is why your plan includes a dietitian-led diet progression, scheduled check-ups and lifelong vitamin and mineral supplementation as standard.

Your coordinator keeps that follow-up schedule with you after you are home, so the support that protects your result does not end at discharge.

Back in the UK: what aftercare actually looks like

Tell your GP practice that you have had bariatric surgery as soon as you are home, so that your supplement levels and blood tests are monitored in the UK and anyone treating you later knows what has been done. Keep the paperwork you are given in Turkey with your records.

Your coordinator remains your point of contact — the same person throughout, not a call centre — and our support does not stop when you land.

Which hospital will I be treated in?

All surgery takes place in JCI-accredited partner hospitals in Istanbul, Antalya, Ankara and Izmir. JCI accreditation is an international hospital standard covering patient safety, infection control and clinical governance, assessed by an outside body rather than self-declared. You are told which hospital before you travel, not on arrival.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions — weight loss surgery in Turkey

Each procedure is quoted as a single all-inclusive figure covering the operation, the hospital stay, anaesthesia, the pre-operative assessment, transfers and your coordinator. Send your details and you receive your own written figure within 48 hours.

There is no single best one — sleeve, balloon and bypass do different jobs. The sleeve is the most-chosen; the balloon is the non-surgical route; the bypass is usually indicated rather than chosen. A consultant reads your file and tells you which one yours supports.

Plan for around a week in total. Sleeve and bypass involve three to four nights in hospital, with the remaining days for assessment before and review after.

Yes. One named English-speaking coordinator handles your case from your first message until you are home.

Your coordinator stays with you after discharge and the team remains reachable for follow-up questions. Tell your GP practice that you have had bariatric surgery as soon as you are home.
