SEPTOPLASTY
Septoplasty is a surgical procedure to straighten the bone and cartilage that divides the space between the two nostrils (the septum). When the septum is crooked, it is known as a deviated septum. A deviated septum can make it harder to breathe through your nose and may increase the risk of sinus infections due to poor drainage.
During septoplasty, the nasal septum is repositioned in the center of the nose. This may require cutting and removing parts of the septum before reinserting them into the proper position.

WHAT TO EXPECT?
Septoplasty straightens the nasal septum by cutting, repositioning, and replacing cartilage or bone. The surgeon works through incisions inside the nose. Occasionally, a small incision between the nostrils may be needed.
If the nasal bones are crooked and push the septum to one side, cuts in the nasal bones may be required to reposition them. Spreader grafts are small strips of cartilage that harden and can be used to help correct a deviated septum when the issue is along the bridge of the nose. Sometimes they are necessary to effectively straighten the septum.
POST-PROCEDURE
To continue reducing the chances of bleeding and swelling, your doctor may ask you to follow these precautions for a few weeks after the surgery. Depending on the extent of the surgical procedure, you may need to follow the guidelines below:
Keep your head elevated while sleeping.
Do not blow your nose for a few weeks.
Wear clothes that fasten at the front; do not pull clothing, such as shirts or sweaters, over your head.
Avoid strenuous activities such as aerobics and jogging for up to five weeks to prevent the risk of nasal bleeding.
